The 2016 Avenal Sand Drags Spring Nationals in Avenal, CA wrapped up on Sunday with some amazing 300’ sand drag racing action. In the Top Alcohol class final round, Washington’s Craig Mark made the long haul pay off taking a hole shot victory over many time class champion Gary Mink in a 2.48 to 2.47 decision. The Top Eliminator final round saw Jim Rossi put the “Bad Toy” in the Winner’s Circle in a race decided by just .003 at the finish line defeating top qualifier Paul Taylor on a hole shot 2.97 to 2.95. A great story on the weekend was seeing Steve Foster back at the track after a few years away and he certainly didn’t forget how to race as he took the Pro 1 victory over Chris Wells. Kevin Williams broke his own Jeep on Saturday, but jumped in good friend Bill Meaney’s Jeep on Sunday & raced his way to the Pro 2 victory over Chris Adamson. Charlie Johnson backed up his strong Saturday night Pro Gambler Runner-Up with the Sunday Pro 3 class victory getting around Al McKinney, who redlighted by a mere .001 in the final. Michael Johnson (Motorcycle Pro 1) and Austin Thomas (Motorcycle Pro 2) were the Sunday ATV class champions. The Junior classes were won by Destiny Burris (Juniors), Jayden Pena (Intermediate), and Karsyn Cress (Peewees). **Run Sheets are now posted!!**

Avenal Spring Nationals '16 Event Notes

It is race week as NSDN is preparing for the 2016 Avenal Sand Drags Spring Nationals in Avenal, CA on April 23-24. There are a few notes to pass along as the event gets closer. First off, the daily race schedule for this event has been posted. Click on the link at the bottom of this note to download the schedule for both days of racing action. Be sure to check out the Cookout in the pits Saturday night put on by the Coalinga Roughnecks Youth Wrestling team. They will be serving Tri-Tip & Chicken with all proceeds going back to the local youth. Full details of time & location will be announced over the PA System at the event. NSDN will be on-site with coverage all weekend long. We are going to attempt to do some Live Feed broadcasting from this event as cell service allows, and will be shooting a few interviews / car feature videos throughout the weekend as well to go along with our normal NSDN Daily Race Coverage. SCSDA Soboba March '16 Race Recap

The Southern California Sand Drag Association (SCSDA) kicked off the 2016 in grand style as the west coast racers returned to the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA for SCSDA’s Season Opener event. This would be the first sand drag race back at the fabled Soboba Casino venue since November of 2013, and the overall feel was extremely enthusiastic from all in attendance. A great turnout of racers showed to compete on the 300’ and put on a great show for a stellar spectator crowd that was in attendance throughout the weekend. A huge thank you needs to go out to sand drag racing legend Larry Minor, who put in a huge effort to ensure the return of sand drags to his back yard, the Hemet/San Jacinto area. Here’s a rundown of all the on track action for the weekend.

Atoka March/April '16 Race Results

The 2016 season at Atoka Motorsports Park is underway with both the March & April point series events in the books. Among the highlights to start the season is Danny Mathews sweeping both events in the Pro 1 Cars money class. He’s off to a hot start in the season points battle. One new name sits atop the points sheet after two races and that is Pro 2 Quads racer Jerry Johnson, who took the class win at the April event. Next up for AMP is Points Event #3 on May 14, followed by the 18th Annual Heartland Nationals May 27-29 (Memorial Day Weekend).
