The Las Vegas Jeep Club is preparing for their 47th Annual Sand Drags & Hill Climbs event at the Dumont Dunes in California on President's Day Weekend February 16th and 17th. This event will have the standard format with Hill Climbs on Saturday & 300' Sand Drags on Sunday. Mark your calendars as this is always an excellent event to attend. The 2018 California Sand Drag Challenge series was filled with epic battles throughout all five events as several championship battles went down to the final rounds of the season. The 2018 Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals lived up to the hype as the Season Finale on the west coast was filled with exceptional racing and story lines throughout the weekend. Racers and fans alike were blessed with incredible Central California weather for late October with high temps in the Mid 80’s & Sunny skies. This was also the last race of the season for the 2018 California Sand Drag Challenge Series points program that was comprised of the 2 Avenal & 3 SCSDA events to crown a champion in each category. The final day of racing action at the 2018 Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals was filled with incredible excitement as racers not only went all out to win the final event of the season, but also chase those valuable California Sand Drag Challenge series points. In the Top Alcohol class final round, David Morton used a psychic .006 Reaction Time and 2.49 ET to take a hole shot win over Jim Hammond. The Hall Racing team stole the show in Top Eliminator as Damon Hall took his first TE win in the Krank-E Fiat defeating Ron D’Artenay in the final round while his wife Vickie Hall hung on in dramatic fashion to score the Top Eliminator class championship in the CSDC series. Jimmy Depasse scored the Pro Mod victory saving the best for last as he clicked off a strong 2.75 ET in the final to defeat his teammate Dave Huffman. John Cronin was the Fast Fours victor recording a 2.93 ET on race day. The Pro Bracket classes were chocked full of great racing and storylines. Craig Durning turned on the final win light to defeat Tommy Zavala in the Pro 1 final round. Zavala, however would win the war as he was clinched CSDC championships in both the Pro 1 & Pro 2 categories. Jack Bone threw down an incredible 5-thousandths package (.002 - dead-on3) in the Pro 2 final to defeat Chris Adamson while Justin Adamson put Adamson Family Racing in the Winners Circle defeating Brian Phillips. Mark Ratliff scored the Motorcycle Pro 1 class win over Taylor Marchant and locked up 2nd place in the final points behind Brad Olson. Motorcycle Pro 2 saw Tessa Nunes earn the victory in her third final of the weekend over this year’s class champion Caleb Mings. The Junior classes put down some great runs as usual on Sunday morning. The Pena & Cress families dominated in the Youth and Junior classes as Maddox Pena bested Karsyn Cress in the Juniors final while Jacob Pena outlasted Karsyn Cress in the Youth final. The Junior Dragsters battled it down to Blake Adamson turning on the final win light over Lily Garcia. And that wraps up the 2018 Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals. The 2018 SCSDA Hammer Down Nationals again put on a great show for the crowd at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA. Warm temperatures greeted all in attendance with high temps in the Low 90’s throughout the weekend, but everyone adapted to the heat and we saw some incredible on track action. The 2018 Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals is just around the corner October 26-28 in Avenal, California. This will be the Season Finale for the 2018 California Sand Drag Challenge series. The 2018 edition of the SCSDA Hammer Down Nationals wrapped up on Sunday with tight racing throughout eliminations. Marcus Norris was the weekend’s Top Fuel Winner as he recorded an incredible 2.23/163MPH blast in the heat of the day. Jim Hammond ended up in the Top Alcohol Winners Circle as he defeated Gary Mink in the final round. Missouri’s Russ Bailey emerged victorious in the incredibly tough Top Eliminator class as he got around Paul Taylor in the finals. Another long distance traveler got the job done as Michigan’s Adam Roe was the Fast Fours Winner and set a new class record with a 2.637 ET. Derek Balcunas saved his best pass for the last as he recorded a strong 2.67 lap to defeat Jimmy Depasse in the Pro Mod Unlimited Final. The Pro Bracket Winners on the day were: Tommy Zavala (Pro 1), Scott Hensley (Pro 2), Chris Adamson (Pro 3), Brad Olson (Motorcycle Pro 1) and Tyler Hanrahan (Motorcycle Pro 2). There was also tough competition in the Junior categories, the winners are as follows: Alex Sadler (Junior Dragster), Phoenix Hicks (Juniors) and Cam Tantardini (Youth). The 2018 So Cal Sand Drag Association (SCSDA) Hammer Down Nationals is coming up on September 28-30 at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA. This will be Race 4 of 5 in the 2018 California Sand Drag Challenge Series. Also, there is some exciting news as there will be Bonus Cash added into the payouts of the Pro Bracket classes. With the added cash, the Pro 1, Pro 2 & Pro 3 categories will pay a GUARANTEED $1200 to win while the Top Eliminator, Motorcycle Pro 1 & Motorcycle Pro 2 classes will pay $1000 to win **MP1/MP2 Guaranteed With 16+ Entries**.
